Montée des Alpage

So I was all excited this weekend, we were going up to Gryon and I was finally going to see the Montée des Alpage, where les vaches get all shampooed and dressed up with spring fleurs in their horns and get taken up to the alps, accompanied by traditionally dressed Swiss farmers, terrible brass bands and alphorns. (for your edification, the alps are actually mountain meadows, as opposed to the Alps, which are a mountain range). I was looking forward to posting pictures that looked like this:

But, alas, the cows had made the journey two weeks ago and so now I can only offer you these pictures of The Max, following a SPECTACULAR fall into a mudpuddle on our 2 hour hike around Tavayannes and Les Alp Des Chaux. Please note, for your security and safety, do not hike in running shoes and never threaten your mother with a snowball or instant karma will bite you in the ass. Enjoy!

"Way to go! Now you have to try and wash your pants in the snow!"

Butt cleaning...

Well that's kinda presentable...

L'Image du Jour

I first found this site about a year ago, BLU paints on a huge scale on buildings all around the world. It is 'guerrila art' and not technically graffiti and you can see more (plus videos of how he does it) at his site:

L'Image Du Jour

I'm off to the flat in Gryon for the next few days due to some Swiss holiday that falls on Thursday, which means everything is closed that day and most people take Friday off as well. Four days to work on my French (yeah...uh huh that's the plan), lounge around and enjoy not having to get up at 7:20 am and if we're lucky and it doesn't rain all weekend, maybe get in a hike. The downside...I have very limited internet access so the l'image du jour will be pre-empted. See ya Monday!

L'Image du Jour

This is one of the lovely drawings from Missed Connections, a blog created by Sophie Blackall that takes those enigmatic but often boring missed connection ads and turns them into something poignant and lasting.

L'Image Du Jour

I've been pondering adding this feature to 'But I Digress...' for sometime now. I spend most of my interwebs time surfing through images these days; design oriented blogs, typeface and font enthusiasts, architecture, vintage posters and collections and simply stunning or awe inducing imagery. Beats wasting time on Farmville (for me at least, no offense to any avid Farmville/Assbook fans out there) and rather than start a whole new blog, I thought adding this feature would, at the very least, get me posting on a daily basis here.
Somedays I will just post an image, somedays if I'm waxing philosophical I might make a comment or two. Je commence...

Un jour, je parlerai le français.

Update: I was going to try to do a literal translation of this but got hopelessly lost in the idioms, so for clarity, here is the Daft Punk song the above video is based on. For me, I think the French one is superior! The music is by La Pompe Moderne.
